Retro/vintage water carrier - Help me remember!

Ok then. We've been looking at retro frame tents in another section on here. Which brought back some camping memories for me.

Now, water carriers then. I have very fond memories of a certain type of water container that my dad used to use in our camper van and I think I was indeed using until the early 2000's. I've searched online but I can't find a picture of it. I'll try and describe the one we had and see if anyone knows what I'm talking about.

Right. It stood about 2 foot tall, maybe a little bit more. It was 2 tone plastic, the bottom half in red and the top half white. It look vaguely jug or coal scuttle shaped, tall, but dumpy, if that makes sense and probably about ten inches across at the circular base. The pourer and stopper were in the top, and the stopper vaguley looked like a very big plastic sink plug, which was connected to the body by a chain. There was a pivoting handle on the top and a fixed handle near the bottom at the back. I imagine that it held a couple of gallons of water, but that is just a guess.

They seemed to be everywhere in the '70's, but I am the last person to own one that I remember.

I've desperately looked for a photo of it, but I can't find one.

Does this make sense or ring any bells with anyone?

Good call, but no, afraid not. It didn't have a tap at the bottom or a screw cap. Shape is not quite right either.

I've searched thousands of images on Yahoo and Google and it doesn't appear.

You're talking about a Fethaware jug I think. Bit like this?

              ROB!!!!!

You are so close that I think you know what I mean!!!! If you can imagine the lower half, below the seam in red and the upper body in white and a big plastic plug style bung, you're there!

Mine was probably and evolution of that one.

Shape is right and style is right! It's been bugging me for years!

              Are they still available?

Don't think so no. You see them on eBay occasionally but going for stupid money. I wouldn't fancy using an old one either, I imagine there is all sorts leaching out of the old plastic

                  Rob!

Found it, using Fethaware as a search term! You're my hero, I could snog you rotten!

The one I'm talking about is the one on the right, but mine was in red! It might be called a Geeco carrier apparently, but you got me there!

The name is just about there if you look closely. And there it is on its own so we know which one we're talking about.

Me either! We have enough plastic in our bodies as it is!
