In response to a plea for advice we put on the forum, Glenw pointed us in the direction of "Command Hooks", available widely at DIY stores.
We took a look, and after a bit of puzzling came up with this idea for attaching those extra bits.
By sticking the hook upside-down halfway down the back of whatever wants attaching, the hook bits now slot snugly over the pelmet.

Clearly they'll have to be taken down when on the move, but we think it's better than sticking things to our nice new Artoo0 (yes it's actually the van's name)!
