When I am not using my motorhome for a month or two I simply put it on axle stands and remove the wheels. However, that does not get me a security discount. The toe rags would have to bring four suitable wheels for the camper. In any case, the thieves would have to break into and remove my car out of the way before they could get the motorhome out from behind it.
I don't have much faith in alarms, they can be overcome.
Question for AIB: How about running a thin copper wire around the steering wheel and rigging up a 20KV power supply to it, and a spike on an electromagnetic solenoid positioned in the centre of the driver's seat squab? Would that get me a security discount, or just a need to search the scrap yards for a replacement seat?
A few years ago I bought a new expensive motorbike. I chained it to the incoming mains cable in the garage, before the mains supply got to the meter. Shortly after buying the bike my garage was broken into but nothing was stolen. I called the Crime Prevention Officer who came round to have a look, and he agreed with me that they were after the motorbike, and that chaining it to the mains cable was the best possible thing I could do. I said "If I come out to see a commotion and see a body wriggling on the ground can I run over it with my car?" He said "No, call us and we will bring our biggest truck. That will do a more thorough job". It seems that someone in the DVLA was leaking addresses of new motorbikes to thieves because exactly the same thing happened to a near neighbour, except they got away with his.
Realistically the easiest thing to do is just run a wire from a secret switch to the fuel pump solenoid. They will get 20 yards down the road, the engine will stop and they will run off.
Nil desperandum. In loco parenthesis: My old man's in inverted commas.
