I understand guys that having the Romahome registered/re-designated as a camper is beneficial with cheaper insurance but for me to get insured on a camper I would have to be 25 but I'm only 21 ya see... So I'm currently looking for a rust free Romahome that is registered as a van on the logbook so that I can be the registered owner or a named driver at least. Am I making sense or am I completely daft, don't worry I'm not easy offended haha cheers. Also all advice/wisdom on purchasing my first Romahome would be very much appreciated, or there probably is a forum that I'm not aware of.

      Hi Sean

If you insure a Romahome as a van the agreed value will be at least a 10th of what you would have to pay for a decent Romahome.

Also so if you were unfortunate enough to have to claim on the policy, the insurance company might try to get out of paying if they think they’ve been deceived.

Have you thought of converting a small panel van into a basic camper that doesn’t fit the DVLA description of a Motor Caravan so could be insured legally as a van?

If it’s an option for you there’s plenty of info here:

I agree, if its a romahome it needs to be insured as one.

Have you considered something like this.

        http://www.smallmotorhome.co.uk/rena...oeymobile.html

It is a removal camping unit, so you can insure the vehicle as a car and the wooden unit is camping gear. There are several companies that do the removable units, some people make their own.

It also may be worth chatting to AIB who give a discount for forum members they may be able to cover under 25's.

Thanks JazziJ and John, I think I'm just going to forget about a Romahome for now as I'm too young for camper insurance legally anyways haha... I probably will just convert a VW T4 but not to spec that would require it to become a registered camper even though the insurance and tax will be more expensive but I might just become a named driver under my dad's or brothers name instead... Am I correct in saying this is possible and legal?? I would include a 2 ring hob unit, sink, double sized bed and maybe mini fridge. Again guys I'm completely new to all this so all you wisdom is very much appreciated!!

I'm glad you changed your mind, I also think a self build would probably be better for you for a few years. Loads of different conversions in the relevant section of the website here.

As for finding a 'rust free' C15.... well, I won't comment as I might offend!

Sort of legal but check the small print. An acquaintance of mine lost out because the insurance rejected a claim because he was demonstrably the main driver of the car which was insured in his mother's name but kept at his house.
Reality is not what it seems

Well I will have no problems like this because I'm living at home with the two of them presently haha. Thank you for your advice though all the same!!
