Our registration document has us correctly as a Motorhomebut wrongly as only 2 seats and I am currently doing battle. Daniel Bailey from Romahome has kindly sent me a copy of the build card which shows the 4 seat option.

Wrongly recorded details at DVLA could possibly give Insurance companies a get out in the case of an accident. What if I have to claim for injuries to passengers on seats that according to DVLA are not there? What if my Romahome is a write off and the insurance go by the reg doc and it is registered as a van, will they pay out for a van or a motorhome?

Apart from Peters correct observations, for those with panel van based conversions, an incorrect V5 registration can affect speed limits (Vans have lower statuary limits than campervans) and also rates on toll roads and bridges.

If it helps, I f I buy a camper without the correct designation, I send in an A4 photo 'tack sheet' of about 1ten pics showing bed made up and as seating, kitchen, sink, four outside shots at least two showing reg number, a pic of the chassis number, Dining facilities and water tanks.

These along with new guidelines stating that camper vans must 'Look like a campervan' ie windows and some degree of graphicing all work to a speedy resolution from the creaky grinding wheels of DVLA bureaucracy.

Brian Bailey mentioned this when we saw him at Manchester. He said there is a small box on the form for 4 seats that should be ticked - apparently it is easy for a busy dealer to miss. He also said that Daniel would be able to help sort out any cases where the certificate wrongly shows 2 seats.

Although both Romahomes we have owned (C15 Hytop)
and current Duo+ have been registered as vans I haven't worried about this because I have fully informed my broker Campton that they are indeed Romahome Motorhomes and I have insisted that my insurance documents reflect this. I think it is better to get insured through a specialist insurance broker rarther then just going for the cheapest insurance, although we are pleased with the current premium of £185 fully com for our Duo+ 5000ml restricion.
Of course you only really find how good your insurance is if you need to claim and touch wood I haven't had to do that.

When we received the initial DVLA registration document for our 09 R20, it only said 2 seats. We thought that the dealer wasn't too up to speed with the Pullman option and there being 4 seats, we immediately returned the document to DVLA with the correction made and it was returned within days. We had no problem with this at all.
