    Talking point

On the few occasions that we've been out in our Romahome Ive been amazed just how many people show an interest in it even though its 20 years old and with a few battle scars to prove it.

Its most definitely a way to get to know people. A guy and his wife we met last week wanted to know the ins and outs of the van, where we bought it, what kind of price could they expect to pay for one etc etc.

Together with the "Sarah's Inheritance" sticker on the front, Im going to get a "Tourist Information" sticker for the back entry door

Does anyone else have this experience when they take their van out...?

Dont forget the latest updates on the blog folks (link below)

Yes we used to get loads of people asking us about the van when we had a Duo, especially in France, they are fascinated by them.

Since we've had a Dimension we don't get so much interest but I suppose there are lots more vans which are very similar whereas the smaller Romahomes are pretty unique.

All the time, I am seriously thinking of charging Romahome a commision fee, or perhaps an entry fee for sightseeing.
When I put the awning on it in the cotswolds recently I had half the campsite wanting to look,
        Oooh isnt the bed big!
        Oooh you have a fridge!
        Oooh you have a cooker!
Oooh you have lots of lights, etc etc etc.
Privacy! in a romahome! forget it. I have even had them knock on the door at night, -- Can we just have a peek? what at?
Thank the gods I havent got the loo option, Im sure they would want a demo.
I dont mind other Romahomers having a look, thats different, we`re family.

Yes, we've not had the Duo Plus long, I've been 'accosted' in Asda and Tesco car parks and my front drive, even the carpenter working on the basement wanted a 'tour'. It's nice to know you've bought something lots of people think is good.

yes we too have had others interested in looking on the inside of our outlook. Just as we did before we bought ours I think people are quite surprised that you can have all the ''facilites'' (with a loo but excluding a shower in the outlook) and the amount of storage. Just need to keep the inside tidy!!!!!

....yep! That is the one problem with all the 'escorted tours' you do have to keep fairly tidy! Need to brush up on the French for the escorted 'French' tours, also a lot of Dutch out there popping in just to see!

As they finish the tour, shove an empty mug under their nose and say:

n`oubliez pas le service si vous plait!

even the multi lingual dutch know that one!

whatever they put in the mug, stare at it in horror, then shrug and say:

                BOUFF!
It makes them feel at home.

We were in the petrol garage the other day and a chap asked to look inside the Outlook, he said if he had one, his wife would never see him, he'd be off fishing all the time.

When in France I often get asked "Fabrique en France ou Angleterre?"
                    Made in France or England
They think it must be made in France as it's a Citroen.

...have mastered the 'fabrique en angleterre', along with the extra space provided by a 'petit auvent'.

Have to say 'bonne idee, Ian, merci beaucoup!' Have a very large mug so will give that a whilrl!

Somehow I dont think I'll encounter any Frenchmen on their own soil, at least not whilst in my Romahome.

The last time I drove abroad was in Spain quite a few years ago and resulted in me doing a right hand turn before driving up the road on the left hand side much to the shock of the locals, lucky it was only a small out of the way village.

That definitely gave them something to talk about, "El hombre inglese!"

We had just arrived on a busy site last bank holiday, and as we were parking up in our R20 two lads were cycling past. One of them said to the other 'Look at that tiny camper van. That's real cool!

Then a couple of days later, a couple who were packing up their tent in the rain came over to see inside our van, clearly thinking that this would be a good idea for them for the future. They couldn't believe how well designed the interior is, and that you just arrive on site and relax straight away. Romahomes certainly get noticed - and admired.

We've had the same too, with our C15 Hylo and with our current Duo Outlook. On occasions we've thought of printing some handouts!
Our old van had this little trait of turning on the tap when you were driving (eventually cured with a clothes peg) and on one occasion people asking to see round when we were on the Isle of Arran were rather surprised by the on board paddling pool----so were we!

I was just driving down to the beach in my car and passing a carpark noticed out of the corner of my eye a Romahome.

I just had to turn round and go back to investigate, sure enough there in the carpark was a 20 year old Romahome, same year as mine, in fact it was almost identical.

I got talking to the owner and he told me that he belonged to the Roma Club and he was off here there and everywhere this weekend, one of the places was to the Roma Club AGM.................. It just goes to show, we're everywhere, theres no hiding place!!!
