Very sad about this. Am sorry for the employees and the (mainly) pensioners who enjoy taking holidays with a firm such as this, especially if they themselves no longer drive.

We were considering having a trip or two with them ourselves at some time in the not too distant future.

But, truthfully, it is not totally unexpected. The dominoes are falling. I wonder what will be left of the leisure industry by the end of this year.
    Carpe diem! :)

Yes, sad news cordyroy mentioned it in the Daily Thread, you've got to feel for the employees and the people who have booked holidays and paid deposits etc.

My coach holiday to Spain has been cancelled. The firm is still in business now, but who knows how long it can survive. The booking is protected by a bond, and I have a credit voucher, which is being used by booking for next year. My fallback plan was to go with Shearings. I am so sorry for the staff, and for the passengers, hotels, the list goes on. I have thoroughly enjoyed travelling overland, and hope it may continue, but I can't say I'm optimistic.

Very sad and not just for Shearings, it’s customers and employees. I know a few tourist attractions that will be hit hard as Shearings brought a lot of business their way especially in the shoulder periods.

The fall out of this crisis will be felt for years unfortunately. No just the leisure industry

In the words of the late Paul Daniels..."not a lot".....I fear it will take a long time for the "Phoenix" to arise..

Best of British to Leger Holidays, I hope, hope, hope that they make a go of it.
Although, have to admit that personally I wouldn't feel comfortable on a coach right now.

There is also the knock on effect of the coach companies going bust. Tour operators who relied on them will have to make other arrangements and costs will likely rise - and a lot of tour operators are counting on people accepting a 'replacement' holiday rather than insisting on a refund, but now the tour operators are looking at making a loss on every replacement holiday they provide next year at this year's prices. So small tour operators are likely to follow them down the pan, and so it goes on. I've worked a lot of my life in the tourist industry one way and another, either hand-on on campsites or behind the scenes in admin or marketing, it used to be a feelgood industry to be in but it's so sad at the miment.

I was looking at their trip to Lake Garda, somewhere we've never been, it looks lovely, it includes excursions to Venice and Verona plus other optional excursions at very reasonable prices. Something to consider for our future holidays we think but not just yet.

Lake Garda is beautiful. We’re planning on taking the van there as soon as some semblance of normality returns. We did (in a car) a nice loop starting in Geneva taking in the Alps, Milan, Lake Garda, Venice and (very expensive!) Switzerland.

If you get there I really recommend taking a trip on the Paddle Steamers - lots of fun and a great way to see the lake and visit some of the towns along the shore.
