    c15 diesel filter change

    Helo Ant

Just done an oil and filter and air filter change on my 1998 1.8 Hilo, ive also got to do the fuel filter. Can you give us a pointer on how to replace it?

    Many thanks

    Hi Kevin.
The fuel filter is in the round pot with 4 allen bolts holding its lid on ( vaguely in the middle of the engine bay right front of engine). Undo the 4 bolts and remove the lid with all attachments still on, lift out the filter element, let it drip for a while, then replace with new element. At this point I always fill the filter pot with some diesel fuel cleaner, for 2 reasons, 1 to save time priming the fuel filter before it will start and 2, the cleaner is very concentrated in the first few minutes the engine runs after the filter change which has the effect of cleaning any sulphur deposits from the injectors giving you a better( therefore more economic) spray. Then bolt down the lid and squash the priming ball ( looks like a rugby ball) until it becomes turgid. Start the engine (it might be a bit lumpy to start off with ) if it stops pump the ball again and try again.
