Red knob beside hot water cylinder

A quick query here about draining the Eberspacher hot water system. After holding clockwise the red knob on the floor beside the hot water cylinder and then taking off the top pipe of the cylinder and also holding the red knob clockwise the hot water system is drained. Okay, but the red knob on my Hylo then goes "limp" and does not spring back any more. Is this normal? Thanks. Graham and Carole

    Hi GeeCee.
The red knob should spring back to shut. I've had one or two do the same thing and have just tapped the brass body of the valve and all returned to normal.

Thanks. Following your advice tapping (clunking hard) the red knob brass fitting seems to have made no difference. Turning the red knob anti clockwise makes the knob run up a cam and visibly move further out of the brass fitting whereupon it releases water onto the floor. The knob stays in that position unless it is turned back to its old position by hand, when it also then goes back in towards the fitting. There appears to be no spring resistance to return it. However, the red knob can be turned past the cam anti clockwise when it will then spring in towards the fitting with a clunk, presumably shutting the valve although the red knob remains quite loose and wobbly. (There appears to be about 4 cam positions available per revolution of the red knob.) Is this still okay? Advice much appreciated. Graham (and Carole)
