    Heartbroken

    Hi
Good to see familiar faces are still on here. Haven't been on here for ages...too busy out & about in my Romahome.

However, I took it for it's mot today and it FAILED miserably!!!! Devastating!!! According to the mot guy "It's a rust bucket and not worth throwing money at" Among other things the suspension mounting area is corroded and he says it's a waste of money fixing it.

Thing is, I love my Romahome and he doesn't!!!

So...I've found a guy who is a specialist welder and does all sorts of off-road stuff and conversions etc who is going to look at it tomorrow. Wish me luck.

If that fails I may try to have it remounted on something else. It's not a de-mountable body but it is immaculate and it would break my heart to scrap it. Anyone done a successful remount?? And if so, what onto???

    I'll keep you posted.

    Hi Playallday,

I have just had to have mine MOT'd as well... and both my suspension mounting areas at the front had to be welded ... amongsth other things... I think it sounds like your garage just doesnt want to do it ..

Hopefuly the next place you take it will get it done for you at not an extravagant cost

      Hi playallday

Lovely to see you on here again, we have missed you.

So sorry to hear about your beloved Romahome but lets hope your welder chap can help you out.

By all accounts remounts of Romahomes are not recommended by Romahome but people do have them done.

Fingers crossed for you, let us know.

        Hi, playallday.

Sorry to hear of your woes. We had the same with our Bambi (No. 1).

Can I ask which Romahome you have? I may have a sound solution.

Zaphod..she's a G reg C15 Hi-top...much loved, my first campervan. I've had her for 4 years, since I retired, and together we have spent the last three summers in the south of France on a shoestring.

Thank you all for your kind words...I'll let you know...I'm seeing him at 2o'clock, so I'm keeping EVERYTHING crossed!!

Come on, let us know! I bet it's fixable... there are very few things that aren't and where there's a will, there's a way!

Hopefully it was such good news that a rapid trip to the pub was required to celebrate...and it's still going on

Oh dear, sorry to keep you all in suspenders!! I had to go away for the weekend.

Well, he's an incredibly enthusiatic and positive guy. He had a look at it and pulled the door sills off effortlessly, they were so rusted out. But...after crawling underneath he says that under the seats is fine (apparently if that's rusted out there's no hope at all) and although he hasn't promised, he thinks it is possible to fix it, then added "Without the body catching on fire"

I rang my "little man" to give him the good news and he was horrified that I was even thinking of TRYING to fix it. They don't understand, do they?

Anyway, she's booked in for tomorrow so watch this space...I promise I will tell all tomorrow evening and not keep you waiting again

It sometimes pays to go to a different MOT station when you get a fail. We did that with our old Julius Roma after being told it would cost us a bomb to get it through the mot but in fact it was a couple hundred pounds at a different mot tester who actually found things that the first place missed, which to us was well worth it . We all think that an mot is an mot wherever you go but we proved that is not the case. It pays to shop around. Welcome back anyway and I hope you get your Roma back on the road.

I think I will do this...my little man told me that the mot station want to see her before the underseal is put on as "he will bodge it & cover it with underseal..'that's what they do;" Really aggresive. Anyway, I rook her down & told this to the welder. He was very offended and said he doesn't 'botch' and he takes pictures before he seals it, so I will try & post them on here if all goes well.

Anyway, it's all in the lap of the gods now..or in the welding shop...only just cleared the door!!

Good luck with it. I think I would go to a different MOT station as well after that comment.
